Namena
Namena was special. It was our first chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of Savusavu and itโs one of Fijis only marine reserves.
The passage over was rough with big swells on the beam but we powered through. According to the chart plotter thereโs markers to show the edge of the reef but in classic island fashion, they were nowhere to be seen. Ness gave us advice on anchorages over the radio. Before long we were tucking into lunch in the lee of the island.
As Trevs birthday had been the two days prior we took him over a cake and had a great happy hour catching up with their crew.
We had a lovely snorkel 40m off the back of the boat. The most amazing reef was full of fish life, going from 10m deep to 1m with beautiful faces.
While the kids did some school work I took the time to go for a paddle board and enjoy some quiet time. I paddled past Nawii and said farewell as the were about to haul anchor and sail to Viti Levu. They ended up having some troubles hauling as their anchor had gotten caught up with a coral head. John was snorkelling and shouting directions to Trev on the helm which freed them without having to dive down. They reckoned it was about 8/9m deep. After theyโd left I grabbed my mask and jumped in on the spot. With no fins I made it down to 13m which is my PB!!
My dinner that night was couscous and diced lamb which I thought tasted amazing!
