Arriving in Fiji

S

The few hours of sleep we got after arriving at Nawi Marina in Fiji were weird. The ship was quiet. No waves slapping the hull or autohelm squeaking. We were still.

When I couldn’t manage anymore sleep I made my way into the cockpit and got a proper view of the new country we had jus sailed into. The marina is within an island just off of Vanua Levu, sheltered from the sea and the prevailing easterly trade winds. When I say marina you probably picture the marina in Whitianga - lots of boats and some showers for the boaties to use. Nawi is those standards is more of a resort. We’d heard rumours of a pool and swim up bar! Multiple restaurants in the marina.

Soon enough Trev and Ness pulled up next to us on the quarantine dock on their boat SV Nawii! After exchanges of our experiences on passage both boats got to derigging all the extra gear and finalising paperwork before customs arrived.

Ministry of Health, bio security and immigration arrived on Fiji time. Georgie did a great job answering all of their questions.
