Leaving Tonga

S

After a bit of back and forward with Tonga Customs, we made sure we were ship shape then hauled anchor and set our course out of Neiafu. With our main and jib set we left Vava’u for the open ocean, while watching out for whales. Next stop Fiji! Everyone started getting into their rhythms of school work and watches. We got our sealegs on as we left the protected waters of Vava’u group. Waves crashed over the bow, whales broached on the horizon and we got glimpses of SV Nawi ahead of us. We were on our way.

The first day we did a few tacks and spent time figuring out which route we should take through the Lau group of Fiji when we would reach it in 200nm. It didn’t take long to settle into passage life. Everyone did a few hours of watches each day.

It was challenging to cook and prepare meals on passage but Mum made it seem easy with a mouth-watering pesto pasta to start off.

Also before we left I used up the last of the fruit and made some yummy treats
